ABOUT DANIEL E. CUMMINS, ESQUIRE
Daniel E. Cummins, Esquire is an AV-Rated partner in the firm with over 20 years of insurance defense experience. Attorney Cummins has focused his practice on defending motor vehicle accident liability cases and UIM/UM arbitration matters along with premises liability and products liability cases. Mr. Cummins is also routinely summoned by his clients to handle matters involving insurance coverage questions and insurance subrogation claims.
Attorney Cummins has been included in The Best Lawyers in America Directory every year since 2015 and has been selected as a Super Lawyer every year since 2015. In 2014, he was honored by the Pennsylvania Defense Institute with its “Distinguished Defense Counsel of the Year” Award.
Attorney Cummins is a cum laude graduate of Villanova University (’90, B.A., English) after which he attended the Dickinson School of Law (’93, J.D.) and completed his law school studies at the University of London Faculty of Laws in London, England (Spring, ’93).
After graduating from law school, Mr. Cummins served as the Senior Law Clerk for the Honorable Harold A. Thomson, Jr. in the Pike County Court of Common Pleas for two years before going into private practice, where he has focused on insurance defense litigation ever since.

Mr. Cummins has published many articles that have appeared among other publication, in the Pennsylvania Law Weekly, the Pennsylvania Bar Quarterly, The Pennsylvania Lawyer magazine, the Northeast Pennsylvania Business Journal, and Claims Management Magazine. Attorney Cummins’ numerous articles have analyzed and predicted trends in a wide variety of areas of civil litigation law and have also provided practice tips for fellow members of the bar.
At the request of the editors of the Pennsylvania Law Weekly, a statewide legal news publication, Attorney Cummins has become a regularly contributing columnist on civil litigation issues. As noted below, several of his articles have been recognized for their excellence in legal journalism.
Mr. Cummins is also the sole creator and writer of the nationally recognized and honored legal blog called Tort Talk. Attorney Cummins’ blog, Tort Talk (www.torttalk.com), which is designed to provide updates on important trends and cases in Pennsylvania civil litigation law has been repeatedly recognized by LexisNexis as one of the Top Insurance Law Blogs in the United States as well as one of the Top 25 Tort Law Blogs in the nation. The Blog has also been selected for national recognition by the ABA Law Journal.

Distinguished Defense Counsel of the Year Award – 2014
Attorney Cummins was selected by the Pennsylvania Defense Institute, a statewide organization of insurance defense counsel and claims professionals, to recieve the Distinguished Defense Counsel of the Year Award in 2014. That Award is given to the attorney exhibiting excellence in the profession in civil litigation matters.
The Best Lawyers In America Directory
Every year since 2015, Attorney Cummins has been selected to appear in The Best Lawyers in America Directory under the category of “Personal Injury – Defense.” He is the only insurance defense attorney in Northeastern Pennsylvania so honored.
Every year since 2015, Attorney Cummins has been selected as a Super Lawyer, an honor bestowed on only a small percentage of attorneys across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Selection is based upon peer review regarding excellence in civil litigation.
Super Lawyer – Rising Star
In 2007, Attorney Cummins was also recognized in the Super Lawyers—Rising Stars edition of the Philadelphia Magazine as one of the top young attorneys in Pennsylvania.
Lawyers on the Fast Track
In September, 2005, Attorney Cummins was honored as one of only 35 lawyers across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania under the age of 40 to be recognized by American Law Media as a “Lawyer on the Fast Track.” This recognition was issued by a committee comprised of bar association leaders and a law school dean and was given to attorneys who have exhibited excellence in advocacy, advancement of the law, community service, and service to the bar. To date, Mr. Cummins remains one of only three attorneys from Northeastern, Pennsylvania to ever have been so recognized.
Schnader Print Media Awards
In both 2006, 2007, and 2011 Attorney Cummins was awarded First Place in the Weekly Newspapers category of the noted Schnader Print Media Awards, honoring excellence in legal writing and analysis in Pennsylvania publications. In 2010, Attorney Cummins was awarded two separate Second Place Awards and in 2011 he garnered First Place and Second Place Awards in the Schnader Print Media Awards Competition. Attorney Cummins also earned a Second Place Award in 2012.
In 2005, Mr. Cummins was selected for inclusion in the 2005-2006 “Honors Edition” of The United Who’s Who Registry which lists accomplished men and women based on their current position who have demonstrated outstanding leadership or achievement in their occupation, industry or profession.
More recently, in 2008, Attorney Cummins was selected for inclusion in Cambridge’s Who’s Who, an international Registry whose membership is limited to professionals who have demonstrated leadership and achievement in their industry and occupation.
Attorney Cummins resides in the Newton/Ransom section of Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania with his wife, Anne, and their three sons. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, writing, exercising, traveling, and coaching local little league sports.
